Description
The 8300 MkII Sound Reception System is an acoustic electronic navigational aid designed to receive and detect foghorn sounds in the range of 70 to 2100 Hz from other vessels and reproduce them inside the bridge through a powerful integrated wide range loudspeaker. It is an aid to the look-out function as required by the Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972 (COLREGS).
It is primarily designed for use on board one-man operated closed bridge class ships but can also be installed on vessels without fully enclosed bridges.
It is suitable for both fore and aft bridge mounting.
Connected to an omnidirectional microphone/antenna unit mounted outside of the vessel, the main display unit will reproduce and amplify incoming sounds from all directions and indicate the approximate direction of the nearby vessel. The system is equipped with input for muting during the use of the ship's own whistle, to prevent signal detection overload.
By using high capacity microcontrollers and sophisticated software algorithms, this digital system has superior performance, both for noise suppression and direction detection. Through the self-calibrating functionality, it is also very easy to install.
